Perfect storm is journalism under threat in Australia | An exhibition that documents the role media has played in Australia’s history has opened at the Museum of Australian Democracy. It includes 12 prominent journalists sharing the stories behind some of Australia’s biggest news events. Other exhibits include Sir Henry Parkes 19th century printing press; Peter Greste’s letters smuggled to his family from an Egyptian prison; and the protective body armour vest worn by war photographer, Neil Davis. 

War Memorial Brendan Nelson expansion prevent soldier's PTSD | Brendan Nelson, the Australian War Memorial’s outgoing Director has joined Prime Minister Scott Morrison to publicly unveil plans for the Memorial's redevelopment. The development will include a new underground exhibition hall that can display recently acquired military items such as helicopters and jet fighters. Brendan Nelson believes the expansion will allow for recognition of recent veterans which in turn will reduce post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Royal Australian Mint commemorates Qantas centenary | The Royal Australian Mint has revealed a new $1 coin to mark next year’s centenary of Qantas which will be celebrated in November 2020. 

Blanche on Bob Canberra and their life together | Blanche d’Alpuget explains that Canberra was a significant place for Bob Hawke. He was a doctoral student at the Australian National University in the 1950s and returned to the city in 1983 when he took up residence at the Lodge. 

The non-profit store at the station | History column in the Canberra Times tells the story of the Canberra Cooperative Society which established in 1916 a general store by the railway line in the face of objections from Queanbeyan merchants.
