 The 2019 Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is in full swing now which means there are plenty of capital history happenings. You can access the complete festival program here

A summary of events on this weekend (27 - 28 April) are provided below. Excluded from this is any events that have been booked out. If you do wish to attend a particular event I recommend that you confirm details in the complete festival program in case there are any updates to the information below. 

The last day for the Heritage Festival is Sunday 5 May 2019. I really hope you can attend an event and find it a valuable experience. I think there is something very special about moments when we can connect our sense of place with the past.

Patterns of fire on Black Mountain in time and space | What: Join plant ecologist Michael Doherty for a walk and talk about the fire history of Black Mountain When: Saturday, 27 April 2019, 9.30am-12.00pm Where: Belconnen Way entry to the Black Mountain Nature Reserve. Australians in space 1962-72 | What: Learn about John Colvin, a Melbourne eye specialist who invented the anti-glare glasses worn by the astronauts of the Apollo missions. Space rocks reveal Earth | What: Interesting stories about meteorites and tektites with a display showing how Earth links to other parts of the solar system and the role of meteorites and tektites. Life, Times and Architecture of Early Barton | What: Enjoy a stroll around Barton and hear about the history of one of Canberra's oldest suburbs When: Sunday 28 April, 2.00-3.30pm Where: Telopea Park West, carpark opp. Gipps St, Barton Cost: Free Bookings: not required

Rambling around Reid | What: Reid Residents' Association will introduce you to Reid’s heritage-listed precinct, its unique history and open spaces When: Sunday 28 April, 2pm-3.30pm Where: Meet at Reid Tennis Club, Dirrawan Gardens, Reid Cost: $10 book included Bookings: not required. 

Fire and Water Guided Walk | What: Discover the origins of the Arboretum and the bush fires of 2001 and 2003. Learn how the Arboretum manages its water to maintain the health of the forests and minimise future fire risks. A Special Place with A Purpose | What: Macedonian Orthodox Church St Klement of Ohrid 30 years old has become a Narrabundah landmark.
